We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Baena and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?

Passion can move mountains, Passion can make me enjoy the hardest moments and celebrate the beautiful ones. Passion allows me to wake up every morning with a smile in my face and with a new goal to pursue. Passion disappear the guilt in my mind when I have to be away from my family, because building a business also means sacrificing some things. Passion is the most beautiful thing I can show to my daughter, so when she’s building her own dream has the inner power to go for it, for difficult or impossible appears to be in the moment. Passion allowed me to create a business far beyond just making money, it allowed me to have a meaning, to make the change in the NOW and to the future of this planet, not only for me but my loved ones. PASSION IS THE MOST POWERFUL TOOL FOR SUCCESS!  

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

This business starting with the idea to change the consumer’s way to buy, to educate through our creations the costumer that wasn’t “conscious” in the way they bought in that time. We born as a sustainable brand, and people in the begging didn’t understand what was the point and the impact of our vision. Today, I feel so proud to be a visionary in that moment. I applaud the courage I had to create a brand not from that hungry of being rich, but for the dream of building something that’s going to have an impact in many families in a country like mine: Colombia. Where there’s so much talent, but also so much hungry. After some time in the business, “sustainability” was a trend, now is a MUST. Jetlagmode has the knowledge today that many other brands don’t have, we have that advantage to use and that’s priceless. Not only because we want to keep existing and selling, but because we can share that knowledge with other creatives to grow as a community. We are not here to compete, We are part of a WHOLE and that’s always going to makes us belong, to make us exist! We believe in collaboration and that will always be one of our super tools to keep growing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

WOW, this is a hard one LOL! Mornings for me are all about connecting with myself and with nature, so a beautiful meditation during the sunrise and then staying there for a nice breakfast with the feet on the sand is priceless. Just enjoying this moment to chat and take some vitamin D is the best. If you love vegan food, Brunch at THATCH and lunch at PLANT are my faves. If you want to see an iconic restaurant and amazing food Ms Mandolin has a great ambiance . Love ASTRA and JUVIA for cocktails and of course there’s many cool hotels to visit, like Soho, Faena, and more. One of my favorite places in Miami: La Calle 8. Just go and walk around, you’ll discover different things and places each time. The experience is super fun, full of color, art and interesting people. Go to VERSAILLES to have an authentic Cuban Cafecito. For shopping please come and visit our new physical space at SHOWFIELDS. The coolest store in miami, located in Lincoln Rd. Here you’ll see the perfect match between art and retail. An afternoon at the Rubell Museum. And paddle board during fool moon is a dream. 

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My Team… (and of course my family, but I want to focus in the amazing Jetlagmode Team) It has been such a ride, we have grow so much together, we have learn so much from each other. Because this is a co-creation, this has never been just about me as the head of the “family” (as I call it). This is 100% a teamwork. I’m the visionary and they are the magicians. When you value the power that each member has, the creation process gets so much easier and fun. Because creating just one product teaches all of us so much. Everybody can bring their knowledge into the table and with that we create the best of the best. It takes lots of time and patience, but it totally worth it. What we learned it is the most important power as a team is having great communication skills. It wasn’t easy in the beginning, and being far away challenged me even more. But when you work from the heart everything it’s possible! And they taught me that and I’ll always be grateful for their courage, devotion and love for Jetlagmode. THEY MAKE THIS DREAM A REALITY!
